What Are Post-Placement Services?
After you bring your child home, the foreign country, agency, or family adoption attorney you worked with will require follow-up reports as part of the adoption finalization process. These are known as post-placement reports, and they document the general well-being, health, and adjustment of your adopted child and family.
What Do Post-Placement Visits Look Like?
Post-placement visits take place in your home and are conducted in person by Christen. They are designed to be friendly, informal conversations, not inspections. The purpose is to understand how your family is adjusting and to provide any support or guidance that might be helpful during this important transition.
During a post-placement visit, Christen may discuss:
- Your child's physical health, development, and well-being
- How your child is settling into the home environment
- Any questions or challenges you are navigating as new or growing adoptive parents
- Educational or developmental observations, particularly for older children
- The overall adjustment of all family members
How Many Visits Are Required?
The number of required post-placement visits varies depending on the type of adoption, the agency or attorney involved, and in the case of international adoptions, the requirements of the child's country of origin. Christen will work directly with your agency or attorney to understand exactly what is required and ensure every report is completed accurately and on time.
If Christen completed your home study, she already knows your family. Post-placement visits with a familiar social worker feel very different from a visit with a stranger. Families consistently tell us this makes the experience far more comfortable and natural.
Post-Placement Support Beyond the Reports
Post-placement visits are not simply a checkbox. Christen genuinely looks forward to these visits as an opportunity to see families thriving. Families who have worked with us consistently tell us they valued the practical guidance and supportive presence Christen brought to these visits, not just the paperwork she completed.
As one family shared: "The personal education we received from you when you came to our home was invaluable! With your supportive words and helpful attitude, you made our transition into parenthood easy!"
